Next Generation Stadiums

Dive deep into the future of stadium design. Discover how architecture, technology, and sustainability come together to create the iconic meeting places of tomorrow. From megastructures to ecological innovations, we explore the boundaries of what is possible.

About the Podcast

This podcast is created by three students with a strong interest in architecture and the future of building design. In this episode, we explore the next generation of stadiums. Modern stadiums are no longer just large and impressive structures, but also smarter, more efficient, and increasingly sustainable. Through innovative design and advanced technology, these buildings are transforming into multifunctional and iconic elements within cities.

In the podcast, we discuss three remarkable projects: the future stadium of the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Eco Park Stadium in England, and the Hangzhou International Sports Centre in China. Each project demonstrates in its own way how architecture, engineering, and sustainability come together in large-scale developments.

Episode 1: The next generation podcast

Dive into the world of sustainable materials and energy efficiency in stadium design.

👥 About the Creators

The podcast is hosted by Luuk, who guides the conversation and introduces the topics. Alongside him are two specialists, each bringing a different perspective on modern stadium design.

Niels focuses on sustainability and explores how stadiums can reduce their environmental impact. He discusses topics such as energy efficiency, renewable materials, and smart systems that make buildings more sustainable.

Reinout focuses on mega design and the technical side of architecture. He explains how architects and engineers deal with the massive scale of stadiums and how they balance aesthetics, functionality, and structural challenges.

🔮 Vision on the Future

The projects discussed in this podcast show that the future of stadiums goes far beyond sports. Stadiums are evolving into sustainable, multifunctional buildings that play an important role within the urban environment.

Where the focus used to be mainly on capacity and function, there is now a growing emphasis on experience, sustainability, and identity. Stadiums are becoming landmarks that can generate energy, use renewable materials, and even contribute to biodiversity in their surroundings.

Technology also plays an increasingly important role. Smart systems and data allow buildings to operate more efficiently and respond better to user needs. This makes stadiums not only more sustainable, but also more adaptable and future-proof.

In conclusion, this podcast highlights how architecture, technology, and sustainability are shaping the stadiums of the future—and how these developments are influencing the way we design and experience cities.
